1.ADDIE
Addie is the core of many of the Ed Tech courses. It is a systematic approach to curriculum design.
As a creative thinker, it is sometimes difficult to sequentially arrange my thinking. Addie was instrumental in helping me to understand the process of curriculum development, and can extend to other ways as well.
2. Constructivism
One of three ways of how we learn, constructivism refers to an individual that learns through doing.
This theory opened my eyes to my own way of teaching and learning. Understanding that we do not all benefit from traditional lecture and tests, it was invigorating and exciting to learn how this can be applied to my studies and my course design.
3.Transactional distance
Defined by Michael Moore, this theory refers to the relationship between structure and dialog.
As a distance educator, it is important for me to create lessons which can be enjoyed by learners regardless of where they are and when they are engaging in the subject. This theory helped me to identify the balance between the structure of the course and the interaction with the instructor.
4. Teacher as facilitator
A component of distance education, it implies the value of a teacher in facilitating education, instead of the only source of learning.
Distance education embraces a variety of delivery modes. Often, something is created well by another individual or organization. This theory reinforces the understanding that a teacher is responsible for pulling together the lessons, and making them available to all types of learners.
5. Multiple Intelligences
Like constructivism, multiple intelligences arose out of the knowledge that people learn in different ways. This theory compartmentalizes them into at least eight intelligences.
Again, this theory embodies the belief that anyone can learn, provided they can find a relevant source of information. A good instructor can identify education packaged in a number of ways in order to reach the largest number of students.
